From jump scares to thrillers, these movies will certainly keep you up at night...

Get Out Horror/Psychological Thriller ★★★★★

Chris, an African-American man, decides to visit his Caucasian girlfriend's parents during a weekend getaway. Although they seem normal at first, he is not prepared to experience the horrors ahead.

Psychologically thrilling, amazingly made. Has you up at night thinking about the movie non-stop. It really is shocking and just grasps the monstrosity of racism.

Orphan Horror/Psychological Thriller ★★★★★

After losing their baby, a couple adopt a nine-year-old girl. However, they soon make a troubling discovery about her mysterious past and uncover several traits of her disturbing personality.

A troubling movie, a shocking plot twist that leaves you shocked and rethinking each scene in the movie. Murder and killing does not match up to the psychological thrill this movie plays on you.

The Exorcist Horror ★★★★★

Regan, a young girl, displays bizarre behaviour after playing with an Ouija board. Chris, her mother and an actress, consults two priests who conclude that Regan is possessed by a demonic entity.

It's an emotional rollercoaster, a seamless blend of both horror and tragedy that amplifies the film's impact. It has much more to offer than simply being a "scary movie." It is a classic must watch if you are a horror fan.

Hereditary Horror/Drama ★★★★☆

After her mother passes away, Annie and the rest of the family are grief-stricken. Soon, strange things start occurring and the horrifying truth about Annie's ancestry begins to come to light.

It is a classic must watch if you are a horror fan. A film so horrifying that you simultaneously never want to see it again but can’t take your eyes off while watching it. Hereditary pays tribute to genre classics such as The Exorcist and The Shining whilst focusing on a complex family drama interwoven with themes of intergenerational trauma and mental illness.

The Conjuring Horror/Thriller ★★★★☆

The Perron family moves into a farmhouse where they experience paranormal phenomena. They consult demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to help them get rid of the evil entity haunting them.

You feel the danger, tension, & love between all the characters & not ruined by CGI monsters or bad dialogue. It's really grounded & down to earth with the basement exorcism & delivers on the emotional outcome of feeling free from the clutches of evil itself in order to finally live in peace. There is a lack of use of jump scares, diverting from the horror norm. It is a classic must watch if you are a horror fan.

The Shining Horror/Mystery ★★★★★

Jack and his family move into an isolated hotel with a violent past. Living in isolation, Jack begins to lose his sanity, which affects his family members.

If you're a horror movie buff, you should watch it. The reason: It's slow-paced, but is most likely scarier than many of the flicks you've seen. If nothing, there's Jack Nicholson in it. It is not a movie that is just full of the normal jump scares. It is something different.

Shutter Island Psychological Thriller/Mystery ★★★★★

Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, are sent to an asylum on a remote island in order to investigate the disappearance of a patient, where Teddy uncovers a shocking truth about the place.

Wow, amazing movie that takes you on a rollercoaster full of emotions and leaves you even more confused after each scene. The plot twist is magnificent and was not at all what I saw coming. It is psychologically thrilling and will have you analysing each scene, the final reveal is more chilling and creepy than any other. Must watch.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacare Horror/Thriller ★★★☆☆

Sally, Franklin and their three friends run out of gas while driving to their grandfather's house. One by one they are tormented and killed by a chainsaw-wielding killer and his psychopathic family.

It has the scare factor, the humour without trying to be funny, gore isn’t even required to make you cringe at some events, good characters, relatable reactions and most of all there is no crazy jumps cares in your face, a good classic horror movie for all the horror buffs.

Parasite Psychological Thriller ★★★★★

The struggling Kim family sees an opportunity when the son starts working for the wealthy Park family. Soon, all of them find a way to work within the same household and start living a parasitic life.

Amazing, well deserved awards for this masterpiece of a movie. Not necessarily horror but is chilling and psychologically thrilling. A plot line that is so well thought out and the plot twists you never expected. A MUST watch, no spoilers here.

It Horror ★★☆☆☆

Seven helpless and bullied children are forced to face their worst nightmares when Pennywise, a shape-shifting clown, reappears. The clown, an ancient evil torments children before feeding on them.

A popular horror movie that is either scary for some or funny for others. It certainly is not the scariest and has certain scenes that could be better and rather look like a satire on horror, but it is a horror movie you must watch. Focusing on the horror behind clowns it certainly grasps that with Pennywise. The sequel is not worth watching according to Bacon unless it's for a laugh! But do watch the first one.

Black Swan Drama/Psychological Thriller ★★★★★

Nina, a ballerina, gets the chance to play the White Swan, Princess Odette. But she finds herself slipping into madness when Thomas, the artistic director, decides that Lily might fit the role better.

Wow, this movie definitely has one of those vibes of "perfection" no matter what. Really a mysterious tale. No wonder why it got 6-7 OSCAR Nominations. With it's out of the box storyline, this movie shows just how good can a movie be with zero VFX and pure acting. Nina delivers a stunning performance but at a tragic price.
